Abstract
We have investigated the moter nerve conduction velocity in 27 diabetics in order to evaluate the possible influence of duration and control of diabetes to deabetic neuropathy.
The motor nerve conduction velocity of the median, ulnar, tibial and peroneal nerves was measured in 10 patients with clinical diabetic neuropathy and that of the tibial and peroneal nerves in diabetics without neuropathy.
Men with a history of any injury of an extremity, evidence of peripheral vescular disease, renal disease with nitrogen retention, central nervous system disorder, primary disease of muscle and other systemic disease known to involve the peripheral.nervous system were excluded from this study.
The results are as follows;
1. The moter nerve conduction velocity was slower in non-diabetics than and that there was a prominent slowing in patient with diabetic nenropathy.
2. The mean motor nerve conduction velocity decreased with the increasing duration of diabetes.
3. The motor nerve conduction velocity was slower in badly controlled diabetics than in wellcontrolled patients.
